I didn't end up using this shelf because the size ended up being incorrect for my project, but it seems to be a very solid melamine shelf. Unlike most of the melamine shelves on the market, this shelf is edge banded on three sides instead of just the front edge. This may not matter if your installation method hides the side edges but it could be very important if your edges are exposed in some type of pole mounted shelving solution. The back edge of the shelf is exposed and the board material in this shelf seems to be much more dense than other shelves I tried and ended up using. This is probably why the shelf gets the high weight rating it does even though it's only 5/8" thick when most melamine shelves are 3/4" thick. If you're looking for a higher quality melamine shelf, if the 5/8" profile is important to you, or you need the sides of your shelves to be edge banded, then I would highly recommend this product.

I see I had purchased this last October and did not write a review. That was unfortunate as a few have mentioned the packing was not satisfactory. l only ordered one shelf as it was to be placed on top of my big microwave so I could place my toaster oven on the shelf. It took me until now to see if the shelf came in a greater length than 24" and it does so I will order the same shelf but 30" long. The14" width was perfect so that will not change. I am glad this solution had come to me since I had not been able to place the toaster oven directly on the microwave and it looked very odd to place the microwave on top of the toaster oven. Placing the shelf on the microwave and the toaster oven on the shelf worked great but a longer shelf will let me put items alongside the toaster oven with a shelf that is longer than 24". I am happy with the shipping and the shelf and look forward to getting a 30" shelf soon. Update January 15: My new shelf arrived on the 14th and I unpacked it today. I did notice how much longer the shipping carton was than the shelf but it arrived in perfect condition anyway. I removed the 14x24" shelf from in between my toaster oven and microwave and replaced it with the 14x30" shelf. I now have enough space for items I didn't have with the shorter shelf. I then placed the previous shelf on the tray table I have in my bedroom which gave me more surface space which is just what I needed. I doubt my review will get any votes as few of mine do but at least if the seller reads it they will know the product arrived undamaged.

I just received my order, its exactly what i expected. The shelves are exactly like the shelfs you get from ikea that go in their billy book shelf system. They Hold a decent weight and look decent. My only complaint is that all the way at the left of one of the shelfs there was a cracked hole like if some one took the heel of a stiletto and banged it one good time on that corner. I would exchange it but i needed it asap so i just figured since im putting stuff on top of the shelf it would hide the obvious damage. This is the second time that i receive a damaged product from amazon and im wondering if the things we r purchasing are used or exchanged previously.

I am still giving this a 5 star rating and they were delivered very quickly!!The shelves themselves are perfect for what my installers needs are. I will continue to purchase them but wish they were a little more protected in shipping because the corner on each one we received was damaged do to poor packing and support inside the box and the carriers just throw these boxes around and they get dropped on the corners.

This is an ok quality board, came chipped, but it was exactly what I need for my project. I feel like it will hold up ok.The measurements were the main reason I bought it

Sooo very disappointed. I was very happy to find a board that I could get delivered that was about the right size. Now instead of 12 holes and screws for brackets it has turned into a major project. The shelf board is particle board with a melamine surface. The biggest drawback of partlicle board vs. real wood is that the particle board will swell and crumble in humid conditions or when it gets wet. Apart from making the edges look nice, edge band protects the particle board from sucking up moisture. I have no idea what might have driven the manufacturer to only protect 3 of the sides. This board is supposed to go in my bathroom to hold a small dehumidifier. While I hadn't expected it to last for the ages, with one open side I might as well not go to the trouble of mounting it. So, now I have to track down where I can find iron-on edge band that I can get delivered or use $12 Flex-tape to fix the open edge. It can barely have saved the manufacturer a dollar to not fix the one edge. Why would they risk getting a bad review for that? Out the window is the value for money because it will cost me half as much again as the board to fix it. And that's not counting the time for tracking down the parts and making the repairs. Worst of all, since I can't make it to a hardware store yet, I may have to order another one of these. Before I do I'll try to contact the manufacturer and see if he can deliver a properly sealed shelf board instead of this half-finished crap.

I should've listened to the other reviews. This shelf showed up incredibly damaged, in a box that was also incredibly damaged. When I took it back to the UPS store, I would've had to buy a box to return the shelf that genuinely cost more than the shelf itself. Horrible quality, horrible shipping. Save yourself the time and order something else. 1 star here is generous. 0 is the right number.

This product was exactly as described and just what I needed to have. Happy Iordered it. Receipt of it was timely as well.
