RHS Grow Your Own: Fruit

Ideal for new gardeners
I asked for this for Christmas because I love Carol Klein on the tv.She is so full of enthusiasm and encouragement to potential gardeners and the more experienced.I am a fairly experienced gardener and have grown veg for many years so this book is a bit basic for me but there is always something new to learn. The book covers everything from setting up your plot ,growing, harvesting and cooking your produce. It covers a good selection of veg and gives all the information you need for each one ,including how to solve any problems you may have. The pictures are good too.So whether you want to grow veg and only have a small space or have an allotment this book covers it all and is ideal for beginners as it is written clearly with no complicated word only known to the more experienced gardener.Although I have said beginners will like it I think any gardener will find it useful,I certainly have.I admit that I love gardening books and have loads but I think that I will refer to this one a lot as it is so easy to use and understand.

Clear, concise, interesting and excellent
There are a LOT of coffee-table books out there which purport to help you with aspects of gardening. There are a lot of books full of fancy photographs and complex text. This book is as unlike those as are cheese and chalk. This is probably one of the clearest, best organised and well written books on this subject that you will ever find. Every aspect is thought out to the Nth degree - text is clear and descriptive without becoming overly technical. Photographs and diagrams are clear and useful. The organisation is as near perfect as possible.All-in-all ... this book is probably the only book on this subject that you will ever need unless you intend opening a market garden. And even then, I reckon it would be hard to beat.

Practical down to earth advice
Have used this book (now bought this second for a friend) for years as a bible for my allotment. The best useful sensible book we’ve found

Great book, loads of information and very easy to navigate.
A great book, laid out in easy to navigate sections, with each entry broken down into clear chunks as to how to establish, grow, deal with pests and diseases etc. This was suggested as reading for the RHS Level 2 Horticulture qualifications for the Fruit/Veg section, and sets you up perfectly for that. Good suggestions for reliable varieties to try. Whilst easy to use, certainly not lacking in detail and useful for anyone from complete beginner through to a more experienced allotmenteer.

Nice Simple Guide!
A new house, with a fabulous garden & beckoning empty vegetable plot forced this purchase... Having looked at some of the other veg gardening books out there, this one seemed the most comprehensive without running the risk of alienating us by being too complicated.I am pleased to say (one year since starting to grow veg as complete newbies), we have now grown some fabulous vegetables with this book's guidance.A pleasing & informative read that gets the balance between pictures & info just about right! We have amassed quite a few veg books now, althouigh this is the one we usually reach for first (which says it all, really)!
